Futility

When will it stop
This ever present fear
Breathing down my neck
I cannot rest
For fear it will catch up
I cannot hide
For fear it will find me
I cannot continue
For fear it will run me down
I cannot gain headway
Because the harder I run
The closer it gets
Always catching up
Always right behind
Never slowing down
Never tiring
Never ceasing
And never catching me
I don't know how long
It has been catching up
And never getting closer
But still I fear
This fear will catch me
