Sweeter and Sweeter Still

Sweeter and Sweeter Still

A Poem by Shayla Sayer
"

forbidden fruit...?

"

To gaze at a beautiful flower

And know without a doubt

That it will never be yours to own…

It makes gazing at such flower

Even sweeter, does it not?

But what about the fruit

You gaze at longingly

Wanting so bad to taste its delicious nectar…

And while you know

You never will

Gazing is no longer so sweet

When you watch another

Bite deep

And devour the fruit

You had wanted, but accepted as never to be owned

By you.

You watch in abstract horror

And mild disappointment

As the juice you had fantasized so

Runs down the chin and hands of another.

The flower, while sweet to gaze upon

Bears a fruit

Which tempts, and only leads

To an eventual demise

For to watch another

(No matter how deserving!)

Get that which you desire…

Poisons the soul.

to the very final line - it can if you let it... but not if you truly realize you own only yourself. You have to truly understand what letting go BECAUSE you love - means and then DO it. And sometimes... things happen and people understand what is important and what isn't so important afterall and forbidden fruits decide for themselves...

I followed the flow - don't live the cliche.

i wont lie i wasnt a huge fan of this up until i read the lines
"The flower, while sweet to gaze upon
Bears a fruit
Which tempts, and only leads
To an eventual demise"
i really liked that a lot and thought that was the strongest part of the poem

The fruit and desire, ownership and eternity. The line breaks are superb:)
