It’s the twitch of your fingers against marble
shallow, painful breaths,
the narrowing of the eyes
never feeling at ease.
There’s never enough oxygen for your lungs
and your palms burn
when your nails dig into your skin
and your nervous chewing
leaves dots of blood on your lower lip.
It’s predation
an animalistic urge for revenge
revenge against the world
revenge against yourself
for screwing up again
Scorching hot coal
burning the soles of your feet
laying you bare to the world,
leaving you to die
and yet you feel so alive
It’s an earthquake
the shattering of windows
the floor crumbling beneath you
an alice falling into her wonderland
forever
