My Pillow

My Pillow

~

Busy enough to avoid my inner dialogue

that murmur in-between my ears

shoving in any thought not belonging to me

never slowing down, never ending up alone

My company leaves to greet their pillows

leaving me to the silence

leaving me to think, think, think

these thoughts are no friends of mine

This container brings me comfort

and what’s inside brings me peace

one, two, three, four

the more I take, the easier I breathe

Now the pillow is my friend

he pulls me away from the hush

avoiding the mascara stains

I’ll be happy this way

this pillow will keep me safe
