Fondness or regretA Chapter by smartestsnailTaking a step closer to the line"I shouldn't have come," she stated nervously, remaining still, hesitant to leave. She looked at her sandals in the moist sand. William stayed seated in his canvas chair. Melina thought it was not possible for him to be more attractive than he already was, but the light from the fire made him beautiful. She regretted only having a light jacket as it seemed to be getting colder with every passing minute. She was not prepared for a night by the lake. She took note of William wearing three layers of shirts plus a jacket, jeans and old, worn, work boots. She thought that he was still well dressed, even alone, at the lake. Melina shook her head to herself and looked back at the sand. "You've come all this way only to tell me that you shouldn't have come,’” he said smiling, letting out a small laugh. He placed his hand on the empty chair next to him, patting it as a gesture. “Sit Melina, if only for a bit. I promise to be nothing but a gentleman,” his blue eyes inviting her; the fire accentuating his young but masculine face. "The moon is bright, the fire is warm and the night will be over before you know it. Do you choose to look back on it with fondness or with regret?" © 2013 smartestsnail |
