Remnants

Feeling wistful...cleaning after the funeral...feeling thankful for my yesterdays...but even more that I am here today.

Bristles of my broom sweep
the dusty corners of my world
as cleansing tears fall down
my cheek...

Remnants of my yesterdays
lift into the rays of sun
shining through my window
then falling free...

Simple things from
harsh complexities
become clear as I dust
away the broken dreams...

and see more clearly
looking back my life today
shines brightly in contrast to
the cobwebs of my yesterdays.

This is such an emotion-laden picture--sweeping up after a funeral. Something I've never thought about, to be honest. I can see how the gesture would involve much more than just the removal of dust. It's a downer, but I can appreciate it, none the less.
