Falling

Falling

A Poem by Soren

The future, such a perilous decent

there is no return from the abyss

a fall from birth, to life's mist below

Placental security I miss

Past the point of no return

I teeter back into the chasm

At the balancing point of equilibrium

ledge slick, grip slipping, a spasm

A sense of falling in my gut

back arched, head thrown back to the sky

arms flailing, a sense of sailing

all this with me soon will die

I emit a single tear

desperate, at anything I clasp

I belch out a cry of fear

I clutch at hope, but only air I gasp

The fall will do no harm

wind rushes past as I drop

I try to turn to see what's ahead

The danger is in the sudden stop

Alarm at that sudden stop whether a fall, an implosion, who knows. There is fear of the unknown: the trial of self amid life. Perhaps.. for sure?

Thank you so much Emmajoy for the review and interpretive remarks. The are most appreciated.
A brilliant use of metaphor but telling honestly what is turning with the world. I think we all shed several tears. As we look in any direction.

Thank you Ken I appreciate your review and kind comments.
Looking ahead is always much scarier than looking behind, at least to me. Ahead is a gray area, there is no telling what can happen, good or bad but behind is known and often missed and often longed to be returned to. Life is like that and you are right, that sudden stop is the worst part. Nice one my friend.

Thanks so much Will I agree, to see the ground coming up at you is scarier than to see the sky falli.. read more
I have emitted several tears...As I age and look ahead to the direction our world is taking.
Much danger, and it is a road on which I hesitate.
I think back to the old dirt roads in Vermont which reminds me of how different life was back then.
Splendid writing here, Soren.

Thanks Jacob you grasped it entirely. I am still surprised at how many read poems literally.
