Best friend

Best friend

A Poem by Soren

A dog cries with its eyes

mirrors that reflect what resides inside

No tears to express its fears

without words no emotion does it hide

No lies in its sighs

Millennia of companionship supplies

it hears with a seer's ears

suffering or jubilation for us it cries

In fur bearing angel guise it complies

under hairy hide it's shining pride

sharing sneers and jeers

to demon or angel unquestioning loyalty does provide

Allies until the day it dies

by a cold hand left tied outside

Its years in a flash disappears

from life too soon untied

I don't have dogs but I must say they're very sincere. The ones out there, If I give them even a chapati (Indian flatbread) or two, they begin following me around with their tails wagging. Truly fur bearing angels as you said here, Soren. You've penned of their loyalty and devotion very eloquently in this fine poem. In my case, I have cats as I'm not anchored and travel around quite a bit and like my space and cats give me that. But I do love dogs too and this poem just reinforced my feelings for them.

I'm a big fan of most animals, dogs included. I no longer keep pets but I've had a few noteworthy ones that I still miss. A nice tribute to "man's best friend".
