A warm meal

A warm meal

A Poem by Soren

I once knew an old guy who's eye was always on the side of the road
His stomach would growl when an eighteen wheeler would howl going by with its load
One day I asked why his belly did cry and he answered as his saliva flowed
"Lookin fer sometin ta eat, nutin like fresh meat dat some car 'as bestowed"
Think of the germs, if not the worms, at the least it'll put ya on the commode
Don't you get sick? "Not if yer quick" as the conversation growed
"If da road kill is still warm it'll do ya no 'arm, but don't eat a squashed toad" he crowed

What a very poignant write in this subtle write. The story of homelessness, of hunger so bad that a person would welcome 'road kill' to dine on. My heart went out to the old gentleman as I read, dear Soran, bless him. Thank you for sharing his very sad story with us to raise our awareness of those who are so less fortunate and to be more giving to helping them along life's path. A heart touching write so finely inked...

Thanks Andrew for the read and comment it is most valued
I really enjoyed this poem, Soren. I could literally see that old guy standing by the side of the road. Pretty frightening image. But you hooked me in with the ending. Awesome work my friend.

Gee
Had me smiling.
Here in the UK it's mainly badgers that are seen dead by the roadside, these carry TB so are always left where killed.
Hope you are well Soren
