Love of a father

A rosebush, birthed of a seed

Roots planted soil deep

Protecting from weed

Hard trunk guidance does keep

Leaves of nurturance

Thorns keep danger away

On dactile stems flowers balance

At its base does not sway

Its bark tough, wood strong

Flexible branches hold its prize

Through it a breeze sings its song

Source of beauty threats defies

I grew up without a father, but there is a story that has always warmed my heart for years when they told me and I have always felt that power; when I was first born, my father took off his jacket and wrapped me up so that I wouldn't get cold, and years later he died on the same day on my birthday. Even though he couldn't witness me growing up, the existence of this story will always make me feel that strong and flexible side. Thank you for sharing this.

"Fathers are all the same in the sense that they want nothing more than to protect their children. They may try to appear tough on the outside, but deep down, they are just as soft and caring as anyone else. It's the perfect balance of strength and vulnerability.

the title and the body of the work are juxtaposed very intelligently. the very complex relationship men have with their fathers is adressed in a very subtle way. but this approach actually evokes more thought and feelign than a more direct one. certain words stick out: protecting; nurturance, keep danger away; tough; strong; flexible; source of beauty. it is not easy to be a man, and even less a father. yet this is the way of the world. gratitude isn't the answer. there is something else that defines the relationship between father and son. it is very thought-provoking and heavy. fierce stuff.
