Gray

Gray

A Poem by Soren

Nude, sensuous or lewd?
The brighter the day the darker the shadows at play
Illumination subdued distortions viewed
Sun's radiance fades away, a skyline color of clay
In darkest night there is light
Black decay turns a horizon gray
A mote in the eye causes a person to cry so slight
A drop of ink in the sea, the drop of a single degree
In the dark of night the dimmest light is perceived as bright
Black or white wrong or right, our perception is all we see

there's a psychologist who talks about shadows. memories or desires that we keep 'in the dark' but by diswoning them, we become neurotic. i read this work as a suggestion we should embrace the dark, and by doing so we can realise it isn't completely black. there is light even in our worst days, worst memories: 'the dimmest light is perceived as bright.' but the final line brings an interesting twist: 'our perception is all we see' yes, our psychological state is subjective and can only bring us harm if we allow it. that is a freeing idea.
