Shaping

Shaping

A Poem by Soren

A pruning of the day, unwanted thoughts cut away
Shaping a plant to be, into a blooming day of glory
Snipping old flowers dead, new blooms of hope to be bred
Trimming yellow leaves that shade, new growth to be made

Clearing weeds around the roots, promoting new shoots
Compost of past day's thoughts, growth from what rots
Wiping clean each leaf, freeing it from the fungus of grief
Open the valve of the mind to drench, imagination's thirst to quench

This was how I spent my yesterday. In the garden, pruning. A bit here and a bit there. Cutting out the dead and rotting. Making way for new growth. And hopefully while I was doing that my mind was also reaping the benefits. Most enjoyed Soren and very topical to my situation.

I love how this poem blends gardening and mindfulness so beautifully--each line feels like both a gentle tending of a plant and a shaping of the mind. The imagery of growth from what rots is especially powerful
