Opposites attract

Opposites attract

A Poem by Soren

Revenge the fantasy of the abused
Life a balance, victims dream of power
A virgin has only one wish, to be used
One that has just tasted sweet longs for sour

Why does the innocent girl favor the wild boy
The naive lad the seductive siren seek
The nurturing woman to the drunkard makes herself a toy
The powerful dominate the weak

The vine clings to the tree
An aphid is milked by an ant
A dog carries a flea
The strong the weak supplant

Victim and villain are one
As Icarus climbs to the sun

When i first read the title i was thinking to myself “nahhh, hell no, opposites don’t attract, I don’t believe that!” Then i read the starting and to be fair, for me, it felt too much to me, i was like, “wow, unexpected!”. So powerful tho!
Then you kept going and telling the story and it all makes sense… the ending… and connecting everything till the victim is so effective. Loved it!

The poem offers a profound look at how power and vulnerability are two sides of the same coin. The analogy of the vine and the tree powerfully links human desire to the natural world, showing how strength relies on what it supports. This dynamic is tragically sealed by the final image of Icarus, proving that every rise contains its own fall.

I was struck by how all characters--"villains" and "victims" alike --seem bound by larger, impersonal forces like fate and desire.
This mirrors the myth of the Sirens, who were cursed not for a sin, but for the inherent, irresistible nature of their beauty.
