Masquerade

Masquerade

A Poem by Soren

Behind the mask a mirror
Inside it's far too dark and near
Not allowing one to see
Images of one's identity

From dark holes we stare
Unable to see what's there
But the secret lies inside
Too obscure to be our guide

Over our shoulders a cloak
Hiding all inside that's broke
We wear a clown's disguise
To hide us from other's eyes

Not wanting any to see
The shame of our nudity

I haven’t met many people who would openly share their brokenness to the outside world. It seems a common occurrence to mask vulnerability. To put on another face. To put a sunny outlook on when it’s raining inside. Well described here Soren.

It seems that we're both writing about darkness in one way or another. I love the idea of a mirror which can obscure the truth....everything seems fuzzy, a disguise of sorts... and there is nothing to hide about nudity... its' a beautiful thing... it's our body which belongs to us, yet we feel uncomfortable....
"hiding all that's broke" ...when we in a dark place we hide everything, all our secrets... a mask for sure.. this is very powerful writing....and so sensitive

I love how this poem uses masks, mirrors, and cloaks to explore the tension between inner truth and outward appearance. The imagery of darkness and disguise captures the vulnerability and shame we feel in revealing our brokenness, making the metaphor deeply poignant and relatable.
