No give in forgive, no get in forget

No give in forgive, no get in forget

A Poem by Soren

Dry the branch that cracks, flexibility it lacks, broken its own fault
Green the bough that bends, released again it extends, unharmed by assault
The thorn that won't release, its own pain will only increase, pulled by force
In time breaking shoot, its stability uproot, the path of revenge to endorse
Without a doubt, a poisonous thorn must be taken out, so as not to fester
You may rant but don't harm the plant, forgive the ignorant molester
The thorn remove, the injury will improve and not become infected
Let the hole drain and soon the pain will no longer be detected

I love how this poem uses the imagery of branches and thorns to explore forgiveness and healing. It’s a clear reminder that holding onto resentment only hurts ourselves, and that removing the “poisonous thorn”, without harming the living bough-- is what allows pain to fade. The metaphor is simple but powerful, showing the balance between self-protection and letting go.

Thank you Roma for your kind review and words of understanding they mean a great deal
This poem speaks strongly to me, particularly with current affairs this week, and the release of hostages from Gaza. It is difficult for me to see in circumstances like these how forgive and forget fit in. Time is a healer for soothing most wounds and having a flexible approach works best, and of course communication is all important, but war damage is a different matter. A most topical write. There is no place for revenge and hatred, that damages the soul. I love the use of imagery here to express meaning. Wonderful write Soren, far reaching.
