Dust

Dust

A Poem by Soren

Leaves in the wind, people I'll never see again
In the rain fallen I can hear their voice callen
Once here, now only shadows that disappear
An echo falls, memory's dust piles cover my ear
Lost in fading twilight of oncoming night
Aftertastes of old friends out of sight

I reread your poem, three times and it is heartfelt. When I think of the leaves in the wind, I see a tree learning to let go. Some leaves blow away and scatter. Others return as new growth. Time shifts and moves on...but a soft melancholia lingers. I feel some leaves are only passing through. They touch our lives, our hearts, and then continue on their way. If they were meant to stay, they would return in their own season, and even when they don’t, the memories will still linger in the heart long after their presence has moved on.

I feel like the older I get. The further my friends and I, drift away. Just like the leaves, except, it just doesn't grow back with the spring, it just turns to dust and the tree just dies. Life happens, people move away or die or got married or both at the same time. They have kids and soon, are just too busy to make plans
Sometimes, we can keep in touch through gaming but even that gets old. I could ramble on just reflecting on your poem. It *leaves me (pun intended) with a bittersweet feeling.

Thanks so much Thomas your read and words of encouragement they are appreciated
Leaves in the wind, beautifully metaphorical. I too think of them and miss them. Memory can bring them back, even for a short while and that can be a huge comfort. Lovely poetry Soren. Touches the heart today.
