Hazard

Hazard

A Poem by Soren

There is danger in being a poet, a razor tongue draws blood without pain
Long hours of brain's sweat falls into an empty pocket with no visible gain
Word toys of women and boys outgrown when he becomes a man
Expected to hold emotional breath till death or as long as he can

Critic's guns intent to maim all take aim on the heart of a naked name
Metaphors of speech the deaf you can't teach rolling their eyes in blame
Vulture birds they pick at private words vomiting bones and gristle that stick
They ride a storm over form, rhyme and time, doctors looking for the sick

Your poem made me smile and pause for thought Soren. You have to be brave to be a poet posting your work on a public forum. You never know what responses you will get. And some readers have very sharp tongues on occasions. I will always remember the very first poem of mine I shared and how scared I was lol. The responses were very kind, so I was able to pluck up more courage and post additional work. The nit pickers still make an appearance though on occasions. Thank you for sharing your poetry with us. Know how much it is appreciated and valued.

Maybe it's better to turn away,
to plug ears, and pretend.
Hide and please don't seek.

But then what of song unsung, or heard.
Better or worse?
If a poem falls in the void, does it make a sound?
Will the vibrations tear itself apart?

Bravery and pain go together.
And if the recognition is felt
Then maybe it was worth it
