The tree and the lily

The tree and the lily

A Poem by Soren

An old oak stood in the meadow a lily rested underneath.
Why do you shade me from all the joy of the sunlight on the heath
The day past and shadow cast passed to others on the hill
The lily heat stressed said why don't you treat me like the rest can't you see I'm hot and ill

There’s a gritty patience in this—nature’s imbalance spoken in small, sharp lines.
I like how the lily’s voice cuts through the oak’s authority; it’s simple but hits hard.
