drowning you can save but one

which one will it be

Could you live in guilt

with such a choice that you made

Could yourself forgive

Knowing that you chose

which would live and which would die

Hello Soren. You took me back years to something I read about a car that had plunged in a river. The mother was driving, she saved the baby in the passenger seat secured in the child seat. Her ten year old son in the back seat drowned. It played on my mind for days. She saved the one closest to her reach. The devastation is impossible to fathom. She has to live for her living child but the cruelty of the situation is straight out of hell. What a position to find yourself in. What a start to my poetry day. Have a good one.

Thank you for the read Chris it is most appreciated. Years ago I went with my sons to the beach after a hurricane and watched them surfing the waves. I knew that if they got in trouble in the wild surf I would not be able to help so I picked up and went home unable to watch.

I can understand that. I was talking to my 27 year old grandson and his 25 year old sister about your poem. It caused quite a debate but it stirred up some really uncomfortable feelings for me and it questioned all I believe in. Great poetry Soren.
