The New Jerusalem

A woman at the poetry reading said that San Francisco could be the

new Jerusalem. 

 

I didn't quite agree with her so I wrote this poem:

 

The new Jerusalem does not exist in this world

It lives in the hearts and souls of men and women

That's for sure.

 

It's not a state or country

Just a state of mind

Where people work together well

And treat each other kind

 

Nobody suffers

I read that in the book

 

I've suffered enough

I don't have to look

 

At my brothers and sisters

Alone in the street

To realize

This ain't no new Jerusalem to me.
