The City's Coming To The Country

The City's Coming To The Country

A Poem by Steve Paschall

The city's coming to the country

It's headed this a way

There's no way we can stop it

Politician's done been paid

Over there I see conglomacorp

Behind a gold bulldozer

Next they'll bring the smoke fumes in

To overthrow the clover

There's panic in the old bulls eye

The fish must swim upstream

This land for which men killed and died

Has been bought by industry

Watch the stoplights multiply

As traffic crawls - then stops

Heck this could be a perfect time

To open a little shop

And we can sit and reminisce

About the chickens and the horses

And tell the kids 'bout way back when

As the situation worsens
