Prologue

Kendra Wallingford had just ran her car straight into a tree and was lying against her steering wheel when the paramedics arrived on the scene. The two men pulled her out of the car just before it went up in flames. They put an oxygen mask on Kendra and checked her vital signs: pulse�"rapid, bp (blood pressure)--200/110, dangerously high, temp�"103.4 and rising fast. Just as the two paramedics were frantically working to stabilize Kendra, she flatlines. The first paramedic pulls out the defibrillator and shocks her system. But, after several minutes of trying to revive Kendra. . . she is pronounced dead.
