A Chapter by Stephanie JonesForeshadow this.Or nightmare... I was running in the forest trying to escape something and I tripped and fell down a rocky hill, when I finally hit the bottom I jumped up and began running again, the thing was still after me. I heard it calling my name, but I kept running forward, towards the sunlight. Finally I broke through the brush and landed in the sunlight, but stopped short. A cliff, a mountain cliff and I walked slowly to the edge and sat down. Then someone joined me, sat down and took my hand in his. I never felt love before, for anyone. But this, this was strong, powerful, like our hands were supposed to be placed together, like the missing half of me was found. I didn’t want to see who the person was though, so I never looked, I’d find who he really was in life. And then I remembered how much of a dream this really was, and with that I stood up, and so did the man who was at my side. We walked backwards a little bit, then we grasped each others hands and held tight. We darted towards the cliff’s edge and on the last spot we both leaped, and then were airborne. We held our hands together as both our bodies flew towards the water below us. We were getting closer, and I can’t describe how it felt but right before we touched the water... I woke up. When I first opened my eyes I blinked once and then had clear sight. I was in someone’s bedroom, I could tell by the fact I was on someone’s bed, the t.v. was on and you could hear little murmurs of the cartoon it was showing. I actually watched it, it had a little girl and boy, who were dancing, but they were cartoon characters, and I was drawn in by the boy and girl dancing. Then the t.v. went blank, and I turned my head to see an older man with Trevor. “Trevor!” And a huge smile appeared on his face, obviously imitating the one on mine. “Juliet. Jeez, you sleep long...” I immediately cut him off. “ Where’s Lexi.” My tone was demanding, and I could almost see the pain on my face. “No need to worry, she’s with the little kids in the other room.” “Oh.” “Are you hungry.” The first words that came out of the older man. “No, not rea---“ I got cut off by a deep rumble in my stomach. And Trevor and the older man laughed. “Come out and eat, there is plenty of food.” Trevor said through his laughs. And then I got up, onto my feet, fast, a little too fast, and I got dizzy and fell to the ground. “Juliet you okay?” “Ow.” Was all I could get out. I heard steps of two or three others in the doorway, “No, gosh, I’m, I’m fine, no worry, just got up too fast.” Trevor helped me up, I noticed the others who came to here if I was okay left, and headed off in front of me towards the kitchen. The first think I noticed was everything in here was more dark than light. The bulbs were obviously 40 watts and the light shades covering them made them even less bright. There were photos on the walls, lots of them. And the house wasn’t really that small, but it wasn’t big either, and then we got to their main room. There was a big couch in front of a t.v. and a beanbag in front of that. I also saw a little cut in the wall, and the food on the plate in the square shaped hole. “Go eat.” Was all Trevor needed to say before I darted to the food. There were honey buns, and pancakes, and cinnamon sticks, and waffles, and fruit, and apple juice? My most favorite drink was just sitting in front of me. I grabbed that first as I slid into the chair. I literally chugged that and when there was no more, I dug into the food. But I became dry throated. And I had no more to drink, and I notice my glass wasn’t there. “Here.” Said a voice, a charming one, that practically took my breath away, and looked up to see who dazzled me with just one word. © 2009 Stephanie Jones |
