Calm moments.A Chapter by Stephanie JonesHe was as it appeared around 16, somewhat taller than me, with short dark brown hair and those light brown eyes, he was the carrier I settled into before I drifted asleep. The boy, that gave off a nice body heat, that fit perfectly with the soft breeze. I couldn’t help but stare. He was in shorts and a button up shirt that was left open, with the sleeves ripped off. I couldn’t help but stare at the sight before me. “Uhmmm...here.” The boy said. “Ohhhh, uhmmm sorry about that.” “It’s cool, so you are Juliet?” “Yeah, that’s what they call me.” I am a stupid, stupid girl. But whatever I did it made him laugh. “Ha, that’s cute, I dig it. By the way, I’m Kellan.” “Hi.” “Hello.” I felt stupid saying Hello to him halfway through a sentence and I blushed hard from the thought of it, whatever happened, he smiled and walked away, over to the t.v. where nine or ten other people were. When I was finally done eating I went towards the bathroom, down a hallway with a door that was open but cut off by a little fence. I looked in to find five or six little kids all playing together. Then I saw Lexi, she was playing with a little boy off in the far corner. I jumped over the gate and walked over to Lexi. “Lexi.” As soon as I spoke her name her head popped up and the most brilliant smile appeared, I reflected hers. And then her head turned ever so slightly to see where I came from. “Kel-lan.” Lexi’s first words. I also turned my head to see him hoping over the fence and walking towards us. He patted her head and looked at me. “She’s really talented.” Kellan said. “I know.” I couldn’t help but smile when he said that, who can’t find her magnificent. Then what came from his lips was a little shocking. “You know, you’re kind of young, to be a mother.” My jaw dropped, shock over my face. “Are you okay?” He replied worry on his face. Lexi crawled up into my legs that were in Indian style. “I’m not her mo-ther...” Was all I could say. “Ohhhhhhhh.” He smiled, “It’s just the entire day yesterday, she kept saying ‘where’s Juliet.’” “She, she said my name.” I was more shocked then before. “She said it a lot.” “But, but she can’t talk.” Still shocked. “She can.” He added, “Maybe she just never found reason to.” I looked down at Lexi who was looking up at me with curiosity. “You could talk and you never told me.” I smiled at the weary shock in my voice. “Juwww—eee---eet.” And then she hugged me.
I hugged her for what seemed minutes, and then pulled her back. “Well, now that I realize you understand me, I have to say I’m so sorry for ever getting you into this mess.” Her eyes ran blank as I could tell she was confused. “Oh, well maybe you don’t understand.” I started to giggle, and a smile appeared on her face. “Hey Kellan, have you seen Juliet?” Trevor was looking for me? “Ughhh yeah, she is in here.” I turned around just in time to see the worried look on Trevors face, and Kellans. “Juliet we have to go.” Was he serious? “What, wait where. Why?” “We-have to go. Now, police are searching.” I looked at Lexi, who finally understood. “Wait why? They bearly cared we were gone a week ago.” And then I looked up at him. “Oh,” was all I could simply state. He was with us, his mother LOVED him. He hated her. And then I heard the sirens and literally jumped up still holding Lexi in a tight grasp. Trevor when I finally saw the other side of him had the four bags slumped on him, and he held out the carriage, I let go of my grasp to get her in the carriage, but never let go of her focus. Then he grabbed my arm, and it could have been minutes or hours but by the time I finally let go of my stare at her, just to look up at Trevor, we were in the woods. Selma, Alabama had a lot of foresty areas, we could have been in any of them. “Trevor, where the hell are we?” “I don’t know, you were the one leading I thought you knew.” “What are you talking about, I wasn’t leading.” “Oh yes you were Juliet, Oh my god were lost aren’t we.” At that point I looked around again to see absolutely nothing, nothing but trees, and more trees and more. “Yeah we’re lost.” I replied looking at him, and a little grin appeared on my face. “What?” He said cautiously. “Have you ever had a dream, and it could have came true, and sometimes it did?” “Uhm, no.” “Well then Trevor, I can’t explain, because you have never lived it.” “What are you talking about.” He was confused. “It-It’s hard to explain.” I couldn’t believe I just stumbled on a simple word. “I’m sure I can keep up.” He smiled, and took off the bags that were on his shoulder, folding his arms, and slouching. “Oh, I’m sure you can,” I paused, but he would wait so I took a deep breath and let the words flow. “Trevor, a couple of days ago, I had a dream that I was sitting up alone in a tree, looking at the sun set and having the air blowing softly on me, and their was a citrusy smell, then I got lost in the forest with Lexi.” My eyes darted to her, but she was sleeping in her carriage, so I looked down. “Further explain please.” Trevor was so impatient. “Well, I was giving up, for there was honestly nothing we could do. So I placed her down on the ground with the bags, and decided to give my dream a try.” “You gave your dream a try?” He was trying not to crack up. “I told you, you wouldn’t understand.” I rolled my eyes. “No, ignore me, so you were giving your dream a try, go on.” “As. I. Was. Saying. I started to climb a tree, and kept going higher and higher, until I knew the next branch couldn’t hold me, and sat there. And I looked out at the mountain are around me, Trevor it was magnificent. The pink and purple sky was there, The slight breeze, and that faint citrus aroma. It was, perfect, I couldn’t explain it. But my dream, the one I had, it came true.” I looked up at him to see he was in a little of shock. “So you’re saying you’re dream came true? So go to sleep now, and let’s see if a pretty picture comes up again.” “Oh shut up Trevor. What I’m trying to say, is that I had a dream after closing my eyes when the kid was carrying me to their place.” “And?” “It was me, alone, running in the forest, something was after me but I didn’t know what, I practically jumped out of the forest, and then stopped, I was at a cliff’s edge. I had nowhere left to go.” “So what did you do???” He was interested. “I sat-I sat down, and than someone else was with me, and he took my hand and placed it in his. It was warm, and soft, and perfect. I didn’t know what was happening but I fell in love, and knew it was a dream, but instead of waking up, I stood up, and so did the other, and we walked backwards, and put our hands together tightly, before darting towards the rocky edge, I took one last leap, and we were airborne, and I didn’t feel much, because it was a dream, but right before we hit the water I woke up.” “That’s, insane.” “I realize that Trevor, but what if it’s like the other insane dream?” We both looked each other in the eye, and saw what each other felt. It was weird, but he was my best friend. And then simultaneously both our heads snapped in the direction of a rustling bush, and we saw a man start to come out of it, running.
