Confuser.A Chapter by Stephanie JonesI had a pretty nice night, when we arrived home, everyone was expecting us, holding hands and all. And I was quite okay with it, we belonged together, I just knew it. I saw Lexi in the dark of the crowd being held by some lady. And even though I knew I shouldn’t have left his side for a second, I knew I had to, I had to see the little girl who showed me how to make a spark. “Lexi!!!” I burst from Kellan’s hand and darted to her grabbing her from the lady in an instant. I hugged her and kept her with me as I returned back to where I hoped Kellan would be waiting, but he wasn’t. In fact, everyone was starting to leave, what had I done wrong. “Twweeee---uuurrr, went home.” Lexi said as she must have seen my eyes light up when I didn’t see him. “What do you mean went home?” “He did-unt wanna be here.” “Oh.” And by the time I went to see if I could get any more information everyone was gone, back to their houses and what not. --------------- I couldn’t see Kellan, but knew he was there. “Kellan?” I softly whispered. “Juliet, it’s going to rain, come on inside.” “I-I can’t, Trevor is leaving, and our bags.” Kellan looked upset. “Trevor left them in the woods. They are gone.” All our money, food, supplies, gone. “What? He couldn’t, no I mean gosh, why?” He broke me off midsentence. “I know Juliet, really I do, but he left hours ago. He snuck onto a train and departed with it. Let’s just go inside, today was a rough day.” With that he started to take my hand, and I pulled away. I put Lexi on the ground, and she crawled over to the man sitting in his rocking chair drinking coffee. When I knew she was safe I started to walk away. And when I turned the corner I started to run. ----------------- I didn’t know what I was doing, I was so confused. It started to rain, and I just kept moving. I knew I wasn’t chasing after Trevor, cause like Kellan said he was long gone. And I wasn’t running from Kellan, I just had a feeling, since maybe my fate was telling me to run, to keep Lexi safe. I was on the main road, running in the darkness, the rain, and then saw a lightining bolt, and a roar of thunder. It made me jump, fast, since I had no clue it was coming, and I fell into a bush. Then I started to get up, but saw a police search light. I felt myself angle myself to see what was happening, next thing I knew the light was flashing the bush, and then it wasn’t. The car was moving slowly to see everything, but it hadn’t seen me. When the car’s window was close enough, I heard the mumbling of a man saying no, I haven’t seen the girls yet. He spoke very clearly into his black microphone. He was looking for me, and my sister. Then the car started moving faster and turned the car light off. Finally he turned the corner and I started moving again. I remained at a walk, but slowly heard footsteps creeping up behind me. “Juliet! Jeez, where have you been. There’s a huge storm moving in, we got to go back.” I still hadn’t turned to face him, and then he was in front of me, and saw my face. “Juliet, Juliet are you okay, is someone trying to hurt you?” I looked into his eyes slowly as he spoke. “Kellan, fate.” It’s all I could manage. A little tear ran down my face, and he pulled me in tightly to his warmth, nestling me, making me feel like every little problem was gone for a moment. “Fate made you runaway from me?” He whispered softly into my ear. “No, but this-this is all to crazy, I can’t keep up with it much longer.” “What do you mean.” “I ran from you and Lexi, because something told me it wasn’t safe. I was on the road running and then the lightning struck, and the thunder roared, and I fell to the bush, and then the police car and, and...” I just couldn’t explain. “Everything will be fine. I’m here.” And with that he lifted me up into his arms, and I snuggled into his warm body, looked up into his eyes, that reflected mine, at his wet tousled hair, and then closed my eyes, as I had done so many nights ago, and let my mind show me what fate would do to me next time. © 2009 Stephanie Jones |
