Meeting others.A Chapter by Stephanie JonesI looked to the sky. It usually always could help me find my way. All I could see was a light white cloud, forming little to no shape above me. It was moving fast, and I didn’t want to lose sight of it. It appeared so simple, calm, peaceful, but alone, it was almost saddening. You need suspense to make a day feel good. Then what brought me back to reality was a car horn and car tires screeching. I guess it was one of those I am stupid moments. When I felt that the cloud was moving fast, I must have begun running and now, I was in the middle of supposedly in the town North High Street, and a Jeep almost crushed me. I darted to the side, at a human pace, so no suspicions, I heard a yawn. Little Lexi just awaking from her dream. Someday, I’d have great stories to tell her about a girl and her little sister running away. If we lived past today. I remembered the store nearby the house, when we were originally walking home from the beach. Kellan is at the beach, and thus forth I turned the other way, and headed into new land. Lexi, remained patient with me, though I knew she wanted to be let down. So young, and she could understand not now. “Juliet.” Did she just pronounce my name clearly. “Why are we going this way?” She was so adorable. “The other way isn’t good.” How could I explain to her about why? Seeing that she would understand. “I wanna go to the park.” “The park?” And then I remembered, the park or at least a little center area in the main part of the town. We could stay there a while. I turned around, and headed for a little till I could have gone straight or went off course a little. I took of course, I felt like running. It must have been no more than a minute till we arrived at the little green, gosh, someday if I ever forgive Kellan, I will have to thank him. Plus, today there was some sort of a carnival/fair, and I could have Lexi relax. She seemed to do that in groups, because someone was always happy, and she’d stick to them. I looked around the crowd surrounding me, he said the others like me would stick out. How much? I didn’t see anyone, so I just kept walking, with Lexi growing impatient. She could walk, but I didn’t feel safe. Finally it was a little open, I opened the little bag he packed for me and Lexi, and saw the little envelope, grabbed it opened it, and took out the note, I didn’t even care about the tons of money off to the side. “I hope someday you forgive me. I hope this will help.” I looked at the money again, without even touching I knew there was around four hundred dollars. I took out a twenty, and headed towards the ticket booth towards the side. Twenty dollars for twenty two tickets. I handed the lady the twenty, with no words said, she handed me the tickets. Finally I let Lexi out of my arms, but took her little hand, and walked with her to the rides. She took her time on each, and I never knew she was so manipulative to others but me, but she worked silently to let the people let her stay on for more than one term on the same ticket. She was precious. I wish I could change her to an immortal, like me. But I really don’t want to French my daughter, and I want her to decide on her own. It’s her life, she can choose to die, or live forever. I didn’t notice until I started to look around, that I was grabbing attention. I looked around at the faces noticing me, it must have been an hour or four, yes four, and I must have been standing in the same pose for that entire time. What did time matter to me, when I had always. I felt a little nudge on my hand from Lexi who was pointing to a slide, that she had already been on four times. “What?” She could go again, it didn’t matter. “Slide.” “Yes—Lexi, I see the slide.” “I wanna slide—“ I think I cut her off. “Go slide then.” “With you.” I did, and I felt like I got smacked. My little angel, wanted to slide with me. “Okay, lets go.” And we darted off towards the slide, with her leading. We walked up the entre steps, then I sat down, and her on my lap. The boy who told us to sit where we did stuttered when he looked up and blushed hard. I must be beautiful. It made me smile. “One,” “Two.” She sounded so happy I’d ride with her. “Three” We said it together. Perfect harmony. We slid down the slide, and let the wind blow in our faces. I felt a rush, not like my first dive off the cliff with Kellan, or the gentle breeze following the sight of the sunset, but just the right amount. We bounced our way off, when I heard Lexi’s stomach growl. “Lexi, if you are ever hungry, you just tell me.” She nodded, and we headed over to their food stands. There was nothing healthy, but it was cheap, so I got her some French fries, pasta, and a drink. She was two, but she had an appetite. I walked slowly with her, she holding one of my hands, and in my other I balanced, the pasta, and fries and she in her other hand held a drink. I walked with her over to a little tree, a distance from the fair, but remained on the green. I let her eat up, and she took her time. By the time she finished, it was dark. So me and her walked lightly over to this little booth we heard songs being sung at. A karaoke station? The place people made fun of themselves at, for they lacked at vocals. I walked away with her, to a tree a distance away. We sat down, and she sat on my lap. I looked in the back, and found a little blanket. I wrapped her in it still holding her, and let her fall to sleep in my arms. She’d feel safe. I would too. I actually began to relax. “And I was like, hey, calm yourself dude, and he was like yeah, she’s hot, but no reason to blow up on. She has a kid.” His voice was like a calling, intense, perfect. The voices were behind me to some extent, but I knew they were talking about me, and I held Lexi closer. The kids laughed. They had perfect sound. “I am pretty sure that isn’t hers.” A girl stated. “Why is that?” “Because our kind can’t give birth, duh.” Some girl laughed, and another chick chimed in. “Maybe she had it before, and plus she is obviously a newwy.” That is what they called beginners, newwys? “Obviously not.” The girl sounded as though she knew everything, though she was right. “What now.” “The little girl had wavy blonde hair, she had natural brown curly hair, and the kid she took fondness ins name is Kellan, with brownish black hair. Plus, she is a runaway, probably took her little sister with her. That is why she doesn’t nag on the kid like a mom would.” How did she get this all from seeing me like once? “Wow, I never would have taken it like that, I think you are right.” I pulled Lexi closer. “So where did the little new chick go.” “Probably home to Kellan.” People giggled, “What?” “Kellan left her for that immortal chick Lucy.” Some girl with a pretty voice stated, and even with the pretty voice, the words stung. “Really?” The boy sounded shocked, anyone would leave someone. “He thought she was dead, she didn’t make a sound for the entire seven days.” She made it sound like a big story. “And he just, left her.” The same guy questioned. “Yup.” She sounded happy. “So where do you think she is.” Some new voice added in. A few seconds later someone spoke, “She is right there.” I felt a finger burning a hole into the little part of my foot that was barely seen. Then I was crowded by seven teenagers all around my age, almost as beautiful as me. What did they want?
