Ballerina

In response to Degas' "Dancer at the Barre II"

Her turnout perfected, her body

artfully arched, she gently placed

her leg atop the barre, one arm

wrapped behind her back.

Casual, comfortable;

the most natural position in her world.

All those years of dedication -

Pliés, relèvées, piqués, the

bleeding toes, the broke bones:

it has all transformed a young

girl, from a dreamer to a 

Ballerina.

Her head held high, confident

because she knows she has earned

the yards of tulle about her waist,

those coveted satin pointes

on her feet;

The embodiment of The Age

of Enlightenment,

she held her arabesque, as

she waited for her cue.
