Country Song

Country Song

A Poem by Steven Fleissner

Sometimes I squint to see
Distant, tiny specks in the rearview mirror that made me me

Now
Cupped hand on brow
Lookin' ahead
Soft winds of change
Handwriting on a wall
But out of earshot

Who knows?

When he was young
He sang about a woman
A river called Memory
She's gentle on his mind
Don't know I know the kind

So I'll stay now
Some lessons learned
A few bridges burned
Beautiful life hard-earned

I'm here
Lookin' up
I just see blue
Baby
Sunny sky
