The Last Goodbye

One of my first poems I wrote specifically for a writer's cafe group. Our inspiration was a youtube video playing a classical piece entitled "Romeo and Juliet" I interpreted as two lovers parting ways, what they would say to each other. Pink is

 

Wistfulness and longing,
for what can no longer be.
The first love I felt,
the heart that beats no more for he.

I look upon those sad eyes,
and those lips that were all for me.
The first love I felt,
the heart that beats no more for she.

I stand before you a different world,
lost is the one you hold so dear.
To wish and hope that forever more,
to find that happiness that was here.

To let go what will never be,
so far away from what was near.
To leave behind those memories,
I take a moment to shed a tear.

Here I am, one final kiss,
the emotions for which I can no longer lie.
Take my hand for one last time,
here and now my last good bye.

Apart is what we'll always be,
the binds we had must untie.
I share with you that final kiss,
to give to you my last good bye.
