Token Alkie Poem

When I think of different bands, songs, poems, etc I think about how many of them have songs about drinking or alcoholism. Well, here's mine

I take a pull from the bottle to make it all go away.
And for a split second I feel like everythings gonna be ok
but when reality comes crashing down all around me i see
is the pathetic excuse for a soul that I’ve unfortunately come to be

History repeats itself, like my father before me 
We were both destined to fail, something neither of us could see
It’s a cruel cruel world, but such a beautiful blue marble
Looking between the lines, it’s all one big downward spiral

Reaching for glasses that have long since been emptied
I look back on my life and see only missed opportunities 
I don’t know how it got this bad, its turned into a habit
This isn’t who I am, I’m so much more than this, goddammit!

It’s taken me far too long to get to this place
Feels like I’m running but I’m not even in a race.
If only I knew what I was looking for,
I could finally pick myself up off this dirty a*s floor
