A Moment's Pause

A Moment's Pause

A Poem by Swagato Saha
"

How do modern computers transform scientific theorizing? ‘With enough data the numbers speak for themselves [...], science can advance even without coherent models or unified theories' - P.W. Anderson

"

In silence of a room untimed-
Breathe but thoughts in want of truth;
Drawn and spent by the circling chimes,
Of fresh numbers the screens produce.

Laws enshrined on the blackboard's brink,
In errless terms derive their way,
'Cross folded leaves in blotted ink;
To their certain call the wires wake-

There's unease yet in moments' pause...
While rows of founding pens await,
And scores of forms as nervous scrawls,
Gaze unto its silicon depths-

In silence of a room untimed-
Breathe but pleas in want of truth;
Whispered to the halting chimes,
Of verdicts the programs muse.
