One-Dimensional

One-Dimensional

A Poem by Swagato Saha
"

Why is the contemporary urban aesthetic reduced to the spectacle of skyscrapers - "a perpetual repetition of one and the same content" (Hegel)? This poem concerns the nihil of the modern city scape.

"
Somewhere in timeless wilderness...
What future stirs the sleeping sands?
To drift in dark as homeless preys,
By its iron reprimands-

When steely dustdevils did rise!
Frozen, though the fumes breathe still,
And reach for a share of the skies;
On vacuum grounds the scaffolds reel.

So enter dreams of statures sworn!
The lesser streets o' yore do 'vade;
As the clockwork of blueprints born,
And sentenced to extrapolate.

And the stale spread of spawns be cast,
To starry brinks... of a promised new;
A welding hand while spends its last,
Somewhere erased out of view-
