The Field and the Wild Dream

The Field and the Wild Dream

A Poem by Lisa Parks

Laying in the field somewhere,
I close my eyes.
I hear birds chirping.
The clouds are rolling in.

I breathe slowly...
Taking everything in...
I imagined that I was
in a very dark room.

Walls were black,
there was just a
couch and a fireplace.
I sat down on the couch.

As I was staring in
the fire...
It felt like I was
trapped...
I couldn't breath.

I started to panic.
I started to scream...
I started to twitch.

I was hoping
that someone would come
find me in the field
and tried to wake me
up.

But no one came.
I was all alone
in the middle of the
field...trapped in a
dream that I couldn't
get out of.

It was cold and
frightful in my dream.
I kept seeing all
these scary faces.

I mean they all look
sad and evil.
They couldn't talk!
I didn't know what
to do.

Open your eyes I told
myself.
I tried but I couldn't.

I laid in the field
for a few hours.
It was starting to get dark.
Back in my dream, I was
walking in a long hallway
that seems that will last
forever.

All of a sudden I fell
through a hole in the
middle of the hallway,
I screamed and I was
kicking my feet...

Suddenly there was silence
for awhile...
Then I felt a hand on my
shoulder and I screamed
and wake up frightened and
I ran from the field and
never to return again.
