Caps CAPS caps

Caps CAPS caps

A Poem by Bob B

some people do not write with caps.

instead, they write like this.

unless they’re making a point about style,

something seems amiss.

SOME PEOPLE WRITE WITH ALL CAPS.

IT LOOKS AS THOUGH THEY’RE YELLING.

IT DOESN’T WORK WITH CURSIVE WRITING

AND ISN’T VERY COMPELLING.

The Germans capitalize all Nouns.

That is just the Rule.

But if you don’t know a Noun from a Verb,

Your Writing won't look cool.

Some languages don’t have caps--

The Chinese (中文) language for one.

But learning thousands of characters

Is more work than fun.

Maybe you want to emphasize

A certain word. If so,

Try using ALL CAPS there:

THIS is the way to go.

In poems we often capitalize

Initial words in lines.

And there’s a lot of leeway when

It comes to making signs.

(The president’s use of capitals

Is strangely inconsistent,

As though his knowledge of capitalization

Rules is nonexistent.)

Using caps in different ways

Is rising in popularity.

Whatever the case, remember that

The key word is CLARITY.
