Child Abuse

Child Abuse

A Poem by Bob B

Policies have repercussions.

Take family separation--

A policy that's practiced by

The Donald Trump administration.

We separated families

Here in the good ol' USA

As a form of punishment

For refuge seekers wanting to stay.

After two and a half years,

Eleven hundred kids remain

Separated from their parents!

Such a practice is insane!

While the government's explanations

Have been untruthful, vague, and distorted,

Five hundred forty-five

Of the kids' parents have been deported.

Lawyers have been seeking the parents.

Imagine the effort the search would entail.

Up to now the monumental

Task has been to no avail.

Separation is bad enough.

But with inadequate record-keeping?

We've sown the seeds of heartlessness;

Look at what we now are reaping.

The policy has been a disaster.

Who could not describe it thus?

Such an ugly picture it paints;

And what does such cruelty say about us?

One could look for an ounce of compassion

Within Trump's heart, but it's no use.

What we've seen is basically

Government-sanctioned child abuse.

This whole separation thing is every bit as evil & demented as your poem paints it to be & most of us are silently outraged at the uncaring ineptitude of this government's approach to discouraging immigration. There are many other unacceptable threads in this tapestry as well, such as not legitimizing the DACA kids & new requirements that immigrants must be instantly productive or having existing wealth, becuz we don't want any deadwood in our country. This is so wrong becuz people who flee horrible conditions are the more industrious ones, given a chance to thrive -- much more than can be said about those rich politicians who evade paying their fair share of taxes. I love the way you see it & say it without mincing your words (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

You bring up excellent points. I don't know why there isn't more outrage. Are people not hearing wha.. read more
Sadly, there will always be child abuse, but it is more and more clear in the 21st Century that government is a leading cause and has always been. Child abuse and neglect affect millions worldwide, and the issues surrounding this social problem are remarkably similar regardless of economic resources or political structure. Nice job in pointed it out my friend...:-)
