Peace of the Sun

Joy at the sun's return, and the workmanship of the stars.

Myriad stars comprise the cosmic foam,
eagles soar to towering cliffs of stone;
reason gave way in ancient times to fear,
receding southward sun was not too clear;
yet its return provided peace and joy.

Churning atoms proved the very tonic;
houses in the universe welcomed each
robust reactant at its nuclear door;
it is the words of Alpha Centauri,
syllables of life arranging sentences,
time the workman so expert at his craft;
monuments are the stars to every living form...
astronomy's song, starlight charisma
seasons the ocean, lifts the albatross.

Author's Note

This poem, of winter solstice and stars (our sun of course), is a double acrostic, spelling out Merry Christmas, both down the front and the back.
