Dreamless

When one struggles to find dreams in the night.

Night after night...

Dreams put up a fight

Refusing to appear

But, I never fear

Night after night...

I lay on my back

Waiting for dreams to attack

Always drifting away dreamless

Night after night...

Staring at my dark ceiling

Thinking endlessly of writing

Thinking endlessly of everything

Night after night...

Music in my ears

With waking thoughts of my fears

Dreams put up a fight

Night after night...

After midnight,

The possibility of dreams is tantalizing

As sleep takes me

Yet, I still wake dreamless...

Author's Note

Wrote this piece last night, because I find that I have lately been falling asleep late at night and receiving no dreams. It's kind of saddening.

I think that the poems written with repeating lines like that have a kind of rhythm and are easier to write because you have a kind of base line to build on.

You still have to keep the emotions moving while still repeating that line, and that is not always easily achieved :)
