I Sit Apprised of My DiscontentA Poem by J. LandA little different in structure, but true to its roots...I sit apprised of my discontent Lonely on a high ledge My spirit born tenacity Carries my legs just halfway to the hilltop And energy to soak up sun and life Has waned in the late evening stare Below me the city, above me the Heavens The apex as yet unattained Tapped of will, I rest a moment Gather my remaining wits City lights pop up against sprawl Newly formed mountains of steel In their conceit replace old mountains, perfectly rendered From the sprawl I am wrought, to it I inevitably return My vantage crumbling delicately Reminds of the implacable dark Enveloping fields of sky My journey being farther and more hindrance laden than imagined Finishes its course short of the intended destination Time moves quickly and I started climbing too late in the day
