A Target, Once More

A Target, Once More

A Poem by therisa
"

a rant

"

These tears

Which you see

Rolling down

My face.

Are not

The tears of sadness

Which have graced

My life

Too often.

Rather

Of anger

At the political elite.

Who

Erroneously think

Being poor

And disabled

Our votes

Do not count.

As

They balance

The provincial budget

Upon our back.

Believing

The programs

Which support people

Like myself.

Are

An economic drain

Upon the treasury.

Thus

Need to be

Eliminated.

For

We did not choose

To be mentally ill

Or physically disabled.

Yet

You punish us

Because

Of this.

Where

Most disabled people

Living in urban areas

Are forced to decide

Whether they buy food

Or pay their rent.

While

The line-ups

For subsidized apartments

Grow ever longer

Than the current

Decade wait.

Never mind

Accessing local food banks

If one is lucky

To get healthy food

That is not beyond

It's best before date.

Just

Imagine

A political leader

With the guts

And the vision

To put people

First.

Yeah right.
