Welcome To My World
A Poem by therisa
You think I wanted to be Disabled. Unable To hold down A job? Else Use transit During rush hour Without curling up Into a fetal position On a subway bus Or streetcar. Forced To swallow A daily regiment Of medication Just to function. Which Some of the drugs Have toxic side-effects Upon my body. Needing Regular blood work To test my organs For any damage. Knowing How chemically sensitive My body is. Whenever One of my drugs Is changed. Whom In their right mind Wants this As their daily life? Not I But this Is the reality I live.

I write this, as explaination that being disable, is not a lifestyle choice, rather a reality, which can be very brutal, at times.
