Modern Living

Modern Living

A Poem by therisa

A
Cold and impersonal
Mixture of steel
Glass and concrete
Edifice.

Erected
To warehouse
People.

Rabbits
Stuffed into warrens
Reaching high
Into the sky.

Where
Any thought
Of a community are
A distant dream.

Lost
In translation
Between the blueprints
And floors poured.

Like
Tiny insular
Conclaves
Unto themselves.

As
Neighbours live
Side by side
Never knowing
Each other's name.

Beyond
A few pleasantries
Shared.

During
The daily rush
To and fro
From the elevators.

As they
Cocoon themselves
Within their apartments
Until the next
Interaction.

apartment buildings are like this...lived in one back in the 50's in NY---

much like the computer age...we are so compartmentalized...not much human face to face contact anymore.

i feel modern living is not really living.
