Flashback

What I experience during a flashback.

Like an aspiration

You float

In and out

Of my life.

Moving through space

And time

With ease.

Holding up

A screen

Which my mind projects

Before my mind's eye

A reflection of a moment

In time.

Triggering

A tsunami of emotions

Leaving me

Feeling helpless

As it washes over

With a traumatic memory.

Paralyzing me

With terror

Until the wave

Of horror and pain

Recedes.

Returning life

To a trembling

And exhausted body

Once more.
