Walking The Divide
A Poem by therisa
just is
Hello DarknessMy old friend Once again I embrace you With open arms.
And yet Some people Are afraid of you.
As if A mischievous member Of the aos sí Were playing a trick Upon them.
Turning on Every single light For a five minute task In a near empty room Before leaving With the lights on.
Yeah right Like this would make A huge difference For them.
Sheesh.
While I am cringing In a corner From light pollution Of the worse kind.
Groping In blind panic For my polarized glasses And momentary relief From the daggers In my eyes.
Cursing my photosensitive For umpteen time In my life.
But That's another day And today is Now.
As I sit In a darken room Healing from My latest migraine.
Letting your comforting embrace Soothe my soul In it's aura of peace And tranquility.
By letting my inner self Find that rare space To breathe.
Before facing the world Once more.

I am sorry about your migraine but you did a really good job drawing the reader in with your imagery creating curious questions until you reveal the photosensitive aspects of migraines. Sometimes the dark can be a comfort from the pain.

Often, I leave my apartment, in what I call "gothic gloom", allowing me, to live my life, in semi-darkness, during the daylight hours.
