Opening The Door

Upon hearing, about the first MLB umpire, to come out, as gay.

Been called

A brave person

For my openness.

But

To me

The real brave people.

Are those

Who come out

In a public position

Exposing themselves

For all

To see.

I know

How hard

It can be

Just telling

Family and friends.

Can't imagine

Your own personal struggle

Living in

A fishbowl

Like you do.

Maybe

Times are changing

For the better

One painful step

At a time.
