On this day
I honour those
Who gave their life
As the ultimate sacrifice.

In giving 

The gift of freedom
To my family

Without a second thought.

In removing

The barbaric tyranny
Of the Nazi scourge
From Europe.

Giving my dad
An early birthday present
In liberating Holland
A week before

His 9th birthday.

A time of his life

Shrouded in silence

To us

His kids.

But know this
I stand guard
And thank thee
For your willingness
To pay the price.

In giving me

The ultimate gift

Strangers can share

Freedom.

Thank you

Whomever you are.
