Building Blocks

Building Blocks

A Poem by therisa

Although 12 years have past
Since that fateful day
In mid-November
I find myself
Still needing you
Dad.

Of you being there
When life
Seem to be
Overwhelming me
Whether with depression
Or with anxiety.

You were there
Listening to
All of my problems
That I comfortable
To share
With you dad.

While hearing you speak
With your male voice
In response to these concerns
Always acted
As an emotional anchor
For me.

Even now
I wish I could
Phone you
Describing my current problems
Which I am facing
Especially the diabetes.

But the past
Is the past
I need to build
Upon the foundation
Which you took the time
To help assemble.

Please forgive me
Dad
If your shade thinks
I have abandoned
My memories of you
Rather the opposite.

Am using them
As the cornerstones
Upon which
I will be emerging
As a stronger
And healthy woman.
