Time To End Discrimination

Time To End Discrimination

A Story by therisa

Tomorrow (February 10, 2010), Canada’s House of Commons, has third and final reading on Bill 389, which will legally extend the Federal Human Rights Code and Hate Laws, to the Transgender community, currently denied to us. The Conservative Party of Canada, the governing party in a minority parliament, which it is powerless to stop it here, but have a majority of the seats in an unelected Senate, thus can defeat this proposed legislation. The Conservatives are using arguments that this give sexual perverts unfettered access to the other gender washroom. Give me, a freaking break. This will not change existing laws, which this type of activity is already illegal; rather cover people, like me, under the full rights of Canada’s Human Rights Code, something, which we have been fighting to way too long of a time, for this.

By tailoring their political platform like this, the Conservative Party is ensuring that they maintain their small but very vocal religious Right supporter, while denying equality for all citizens of Canada, regardless, of a person’s gender orientation. It is time for Canada, to join the 21st century and realize this type of discrimination, has no place in a modern society. Unless, you consider, a modern society, to be based upon hate and fear of the unknown, instead the rule of law and enlightened self-interest of all citizens.
