Chapter Two

A Chapter by TheWonderlandAbove

Diana

“I can’t come over right now.” Jefferson said, his voice sounding faint over the cell phone.

“I need to talk to you. Alone.” She stressed. She was almost yelling at him, struggling to keep her head, while it’s pounding seemed to threaten spontaneous combustion.

     “What is it?” He asked.

“I can’t tell you now, it has to be in person,” She was nearly crying as she spoke the last word. “Please.”

A sigh. “I’ll meet you in the park in five,” He resigned.

“Thanks,” Then the phone went dead.

She knew he was mad, but not as mad as he might get when she told him the news.

Wasn’t it every couple’s dream to have kids? Didn’t people spend thousands of dollars in fertility treatments, adoptions, and kid stuff? Why was it that one of those people could have gotten pregnant, instead of Diana, with her whole life stretched out in front of her. She was only fifteen, for Christ’s sake! It’s not fair, she screamed at herself.

She fumed silently, using that anger to propel herself to get her coat, go down the stairs, walk down the street to the park. Anger was good. It was powerful enough to keep her from crumbling, it held up her walls from the world.

“Diana, this better be pretty damn important.” Jefferson said as she approached the bench that they always sat at. It was a perfect spot, really, right over the oceanProxy-Connection: keep-alive Cache-Control: max-age=0 surrounded by trees to provide isolation from the rest of the population.

     “Jefferson,” She started.

“Yeah?” He said, irritated. He moved over to the opposite side of the bench, giving her more than enough room.

That anger was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

“…” Then she bust open, tears falling freely down her face. There was a look of panic from Jefferson, then he was right next to her, one arm around her waist, one on her shoulder.

     “What’s wrong?”

     “I-I-I’m sorry,” She gasped.

“It’s okay, not matter what. You can tell me anything.”

Not this, she thought to herself. “I’m-pre-pregnant,” She choked out.

Suddenly, his arms were back by his sides.

“Pregnant?!” He said, loudly. Diana flinched, sure he would hit her, although he had never done so before.

     “I can’t believe- This isn’t happening!”

“I’m sorry,” She murmured, but he ignored her.

     “You have to do something!”

“What am I supposed to do?”

“It’s not my fault!” He shouted. They were both standing in front of the bench.

“Well, it sure as hell isn’t mine!” She screamed. The tears had stopped flowing, and her face felt like it had shrunk a size or two. Jefferson looked like he really wanted to hit her, but she felt like she didn’t care, although she wasn’t really certain if she cared or not.

“I can’t talk to you about this right now.” He said, scarily calm. She watched as he slowly walked away, and then she sat back on the bench, running her hands through her silky blonde hair. Tears threatened to spill from her grey eyes, but she held them back as she sat there. She must have been sitting there, hands on her knees, hands in her hair, for a half hour, because it was dark when she got up.

“Screw you, I’m having this baby,” She said, simply because she was alone and wanted to.
