For a Friend in an Asylum in California

For a Friend in an Asylum in California

A Poem by Thomas W Case
"

I'm pleased to announce my latest book, Rise Up collected Poems and Short Stories.

"
Give me lazy lithium
days; soft asylum and Cheshire madness.
This sadness only
lasts
awhile, with sun burnt
smiles and ocean mist
kisses...

Give me sweet Mai Tai
nights, gentle lunacy.
The Mad Hatter moon
laughs at me,
and the fog
only lasts a
little while.

Just one more time,
please stay a while.

Sometimes there is sadness in madness and sometimes it can be a gift. It all depends on the delusions and depression or whatever is the ailment.

When I worked as a CNA at the hospital and elderly Latina lady with dementia had hallucinations that there was a hot Mexican man under her bed and she wanted us to get him out from under the bed.

If I’m going to have a hallucination I want it to be like that.

In truth, nothing ever lasts more than "a while," though some whiles are longer than others. Hopefully, the hospitalized friend's inpatient time will be brief. With that kind of "fog," though, one can never be certain.

So very true. Thanks, John. Much appreciated.
I loved this poem for the beautiful images of lunacy it throws up. Your words make me think of the incredible beauty of a mind gone mad. So creative and original.
