The Quill of the Greats

The Quill of the Greats

"
Where did the literary
giants write their masterpieces?
Thoughts like this plague
me when my mind stews.

I heard that Hemingway
stood to write.
Did any of them write on
the toilet?
Straining to s**t...
"Call me Ishmael"
Could that have been the genesis
for Moby Dick?

I like to write in bed, sleep
competes with the creative
process, but I keep coffee on
my nightstand.
I prop myself with
Hawkeye pillows, and
arrange the vapes.
Cigarettes are gone, but the
nicotine addiction remains.

No booze to spill on
the pages, and no woman to
vie for my affection.
Tonight, I make love to
the page.

I really like this Thomas. It would be very interesting to know how the greats actually wrote their masterpieces. An entire book idea here and at the same time, personally relatable though I'm not a great. I write as a hobby, when and where the mood catches me. I have this sneaky habit of scribbling during office hours lol. Thats when I'm the most inspired haha.

This brings to thought where I write. Mostly on the sofa, sometimes in bed, and I used to write at the office. A fun read Thomas that makes one think.

Thank you, my friend.
Well done, sir, well done. I've often had similar thoughts about the great writers and their creative process. I live in Steinbeck country here in Northern California and growing up there wasn't a place here that didn't have his name plastered somewhere. To me writing is such an intimate process and one I find that is mainly done in solitude. Though, come to think of it, are we really alone? Probably not, I would surmise. So, I always try to do it quietly, so the neighbors can't hear, hahaha. Nice poem, Thomas. CLE

Thank you, my friend. I appreciate it.
When I starting reading I did not expect it to go in that direction of taking a poo, but it made me giggle. Its funny I usually lay on the floor with my writing spread out across a blanket and books. For some reason I do my best writing that way. Then I think of all the amazing writers who wrote on rooftops and by the ocean...Well I live in Phoenix and its 108 degrees and I can't go outside, haha. I like the poem, it was a good idea to write about. (Honestly, there are probably more people than we think that think on the can.) :)

lol. Thank you so much.
Never really thought much about where people are when they write, but probably should have, insisting on having so much crap (ruler, line guide, pens, and several colors of paper, Turco etc) at my disposal and sitting right in front of the TV when I do write. ~Jim

Hi,
It is good atleast you stopped cigarettes, smoking is injurious to health. I do have bad habits such as working too hard, emotional, where it needs to be. But still few think it's good and few things not good. I miss my husband as he is not finishing the work he started, is it because, need money? When you start a work giv it momentum so that not stopped somehow, then you start another.

Just shared my thoughts.

Stopping by * not storing by
Great stuff Thomas. The Mighty Charles Dickens apparently would write thru the night sometimes, sustained by large amounts of caffeine and nicotine.
And if he needed to clear his racing mind, he would go on long walks thru the Streets of London, even in the middle of the night. I don't think The Great Man would be doing that now, with London the Crime Capital of Europe ! Exceptional ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️
